Bethesda has put out a press release stating that the studio’s recent release of the Creation Kit for Skyrim and its associated Skyrim Workshop on Steam has been a major success. The service has served over two million downloaded mods, all of which are free for PC owners of Skyrim.
The service has been enthusiastically received by players, who have been uploading, downloading, and installing custom content through the Skyrim Workshop on Steam. More than 2,500 mods are presently hosted through the service.
According to the press release, the worldwide revenues generated by Skyrim have placed it among the industry’s most successful games, and the demand for it has shown no signs of slowing. Skyrim was measured as the second best selling game of 2011, with 2012 sales remaining strong. Bethesda reports that the company shipped over 10 million units of Skyrim across all platforms within its first month, a figure which represents $650 million in sales. This number has increased substantially, according to the company.
The game has also been rated as Steam’s fastest selling game, outselling every other PC game by a factor of three to one. The average number of hours spent by players in Skyrim is 75 hours. How’s that for dedication?
