Team FOLON has made a surprise announcement when it comes to Fallout: London.
As reported by Ars Technica, Team FOLON actually decided to release their mod based on the version of Fallout 4 before the next-gen upgrade. As such, it won’t be possible at all to play Fallout: London on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
To sum things up, Team FOLON had a release candidate ready when the Fallout 4 next-gen upgrade was announced. In other words, FOLON already had a version of Fallout: London ready to release, just before Bethesda made their announcement.
Team FOLON then rightly had a hunch that this next-gen upgrade would ruin compatibility with existing Fallout 4 mods, and that it would take a lot of work to make those mods work with it. And that hunch was proven right, as Fallout 4 players did find that tons of mods just stopped working with the upgrade, and so PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S were left playing the vanilla experience.
But now, Team FOLON has come to the conclusion that the next-gen upgrades, even after all the bugfixes and updates that Bethesda has published, is simply not stable enough. As a result, Team FOLON will publish Fallout: London with the unlikeliest of mods, a downgrader.
As you may remember, our previous report on Fallout: London noted that it would be published on GOG. This was because Nexus Mods did not have the capacity to host Fallout: London, with its incredible size. GOG was directly accommodating to Team FOLON, and that’s why they offered their own quality assurance to go through it as well.
We speculated that Fallout: London would also be playable on the latest consoles, but of course, we did not know about this decision at the time. Team FOLON does intend to make Fallout: London work on the latest version eventually. It’s likely, like every other modder out there, they are waiting for Bethesda to settle on a stable final update for Fallout 4.
But the good news is, since Team FOLON isn’t waiting for Bethesda, we won’t have to wait for them either. The only remaining wait is constructive as well, since GOG will make sure that Fallout: London will have whatever last minute fixes that are necessary for a successful launch.
One other thing that we aren’t sure of yet, is if Fallout: London will then work on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. If so, maybe backwards compatibility could be a way to play the mod on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. But we will wager that this mod will be a PC experience for now, since Team FOLON is eager to just get the game out.
