No Man’s Sky Lore Detailed In Latest Video

April 27, 2016 by Dennis Patrick

Everything you come across within No Man’s Sky has a purpose for being there.

No doubt that you’ve heard about No Man’s Sky, an indie video game title by developers Hello Games. This particular video game has been highly sought after with gamers all over the world patiently awaiting its release later this year. We know that the game is big, but what we haven’t seen the development team touch on too much is the background story or lore for the upcoming title. Today a new video sheds some light on the very subject.

According to a PlayStation blog post by Sean Murry, one of the programmers who is currently working on the production of No Man’s Sky, everything you come across within the video game’s universe will have a particular reason for it being there. This will be backed up by further exploring, meeting aliens, stumbling upon an ancient text, and more.

However, most of the lore is left for players to interpret on their very own and with such a massive video game title, it’s no surprise that there will be plenty of places to stumble upon that may not have a direct storyline laid out for players. Because of that, No Man’s Sky doesn’t have a traditional story or linear pathway with massive cutscenes.

As mentioned, much of the lore is up for the players to interpret of their own which is just what the writers did that Hello Games enlisted. Writers Dave Gibbons (Watchmen, Kingsman, 2000 AD) and James Swallow (Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Star Trek) was able to create their very own unique stories within the No Man’s Sky, which resulted in the production of Adventures in No Man’s Sky comic, a copy will be supplied to the game’s Limited Edition.

Highlights of the stories can be found within the video posted above. Most recently, our own Ian Cheong was able to interview 65daysofstatic, a rock band that was involved composing music for the video game. Currently, No Man’s Sky will only be available for the PlayStation 4 and PC with a launch scheduled for June 21, 2016.
