Battlefield 2042 Season 7 Is Its Last, Next Game in Production

April 9, 2024 by Carley Garcia

The end of an (embarrassing) era.

Season 7 of Battlefield 2042, titled Turning Point, will be its last, as reported by EA today in a new blog post. In preparation for production on the next entry to the Battlefield franchise, the dev team will be prioritizing the future—though Battlefield 2042 will still be getting some updates and events going forward.

The seventh season added a new map set in Chile, new weapons, two themed events, and more coming soon.

“While we’ve enjoyed and are proud of creating these seasons of additional content for Battlefield 2042, it is now necessary for us to turn from the present to the future,” writes Battlefield GM Byron Beede.

“What this ultimately means is that Season 7 will serve as the final season for Battlefield 2042. After Season 7 concludes, we will continue to support the game with new in-game challenges, events, modes, and of course, ongoing maintenance, but we are moving away from delivering official seasons.”

Following an overwhelmingly negative response from players at launch, Battlefield 2042 failed to meet sales expectations. Over the past few years, it has consistently rolled out bug fixes and updates to improve performance and enhance the player experience.

Motive Studio, the developers behind Dead Space and Star Wars: Squadrons, are currently building a team focused on Battlefield for the next installment.

“We’re tremendously excited for Motive, as they are bringing their expertise with Frostbite and compelling storytelling to the fold, joining DICE, Criterion, and Ripple Effect in building a Battlefield universe across connected multiplayer experiences and single-player,” Beede said.

Battlefield 2042 was first released on November 19, 2021. The title is currently available to play on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
