Could Persona 6 Have Variations on Social Links and Game World Size?

March 1, 2024 by Todd Black

Big changes await?

One of the biggest questions among RPG gamers right now is, “Where the heck is Persona 6?” They’re asking this because Atlus had a huge breakthrough in the franchise with the 5th entry, both in its original and expanded forms, and they’ve loosely confirmed that the sixth entry is coming, but they’ve never followed up on it in a meaningful way. Instead, they’ve been focusing on doing multiplatform releases of older games and, more recently, dropped a remake of the third entry in the franchise. The remake was great, don’t get us wrong, but fans want more info on what the franchise aims to do next.

Due to this, all sorts of reports have been dropping about “what Atlus is doing” and what changes might be coming to the game. For example, one leaker reaffirmed the tradition of the game being set within a high school for the most part. On ResetEra, another leaker said that Persona 6 might make some small changes to the Social Links and feature a semi-open world.

Let’s start with that last one first. Why? It’s hard to picture the RPG series having a semi-open-world feel due to the nature by which the games are often structured. For example, when you’re in the daytime or nighttime parts of your characters’ day, there are set places you go to so that you can meet certain people or do certain tasks. You could define that very loosely as “semi-open-world,” but it’s really not. It’s a set number of places you can visit, and each has people you can sometimes talk to, depending on the time or circumstances. It’s the same with the stores you can visit and buy from; how they would expand that without breaking the flow of the game that many are used to would be curious to see.

As for the Social Links, those are things that we could see getting an adjustment. According to the leaker, they’re meant to be more ‘fluid’ and interactive, with fewer restrictions on how you get them and build them up. That could be important because, being blunt, it’s almost impossible to get every Social Link maxed out unless you do a “perfect run,” which often means using a guide to help you ensure you talk to everyone at the “right times” and say the “right things” so you can get them all done. We speak from personal experience here.

However, until Atlus comes out and says when the 6th entry is coming? Or drops a trailer? We have to take this with a lot of salt.
