There is no shortage of anticipation for the next season of The Last of Us. When HBO delivered the first season, there was some skepticism among fans. Typically, we don’t see video game adaptations handled all that well. They normally fall flat and divert too far away from the source material. But that wasn’t the case with The Last of Us. Naughty Dog created such an enthralling storyline with a cinematic feel it was likely easy for the production to translate into a television series.
Likewise, this show gained the attention of viewers who were not gamers or even heard of the video game series before. With fans glued to their television during the first season, it wasn’t long into the series debut that HBO went ahead and gave the approval to bring out a second season. We managed to get through the entirety of the first game in that debut season, so now the attention is put towards charting out a storyline featuring content from The Last of Us Part II. That means adding several new faces to the show, and while we don’t know who all might be appearing in that next season’s production, there could be one major actress involved.
Catherine O’Hara might be stepping into the show. That’s according to reports surfacing online, which we’re finding out about through Gamerant. This actress has been a part of a wide range of mega hits from films to TV series. But we don’t know just who this actress will be portraying in the next season. So far, all we know is that the character will be named Gail and will be featured in three episodes. That has left some fans speculating if this Gail is someone we’ll see take the role of a character we’ve met during The Last of Us Part II or if this is an entirely new role.
Right now, this is just a rumored offer, and there’s no word as to if the actress is officially cast in the series. Meanwhile, just because it’s noted that this Gail is in for three episodes doesn’t mean we’ll see the conclusion of their storyline in season two. We already had reports well before production started that The Last of Us Part II is far too large of a game to adapt into a single season. As a result, we should see at least another season come out that will help conclude the storyline. Beyond that, we’re left in the dark as there’s no official announcement yet on a The Last of Us Part III game, so there’s no more source material to go off from if another season is picked up.
