At the end of the last year it was announced that Final Fantasy X would be seeing some sort of re-release. It was disappointing in one way – meaning that we wouldn't get a Final Fantasy PS2 Collection containing Final Fantasy X, X-2 and XII – but the rumours that it could be some sort of remake, that Square Enix were doing more than just updating the textures, was an interesting idea that seems to have stuck.
It seems that those rumours were unfounded; during the Taipei Game Show, Shinji Hashimoto confirmed that it would indeed be a remaster of the original game. He didn't say go into any more detail than saying it was a remaster, didn't offer a date for when we'd be getting more information or even a screenshot, just answered the question and changed the subject.
Some people are already saying that it was a mistranslation, that the new game WILL be a remake, but it's getting harder and harder to believe the rumours. It wasn't too long ago that Square said we'd be getting information in the not-too-distant future, so hopefully development is going well and we'll have answers sooner rather than later.
