Square Enix Exclusivity Deals With Sony Might Be Getting Stronger

December 11, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

An industry insider made a new bold statement.

Exclusivity deals are sometimes never fun to deal with. We’ve seen them pop up all over in the game industry. Some platforms might have an exclusive deal for a few months to even a full year. Even the PC platform will find exclusive deals for specific digital marketplaces such as the Epic Games Store to get more consumers on their marketplace compared to rivals like Steam. So, navigating through these upcoming releases can be tricky. If you have a preferred console, it might mean waiting until the game reaches the end of its exclusivity deal. That also means trying to shield yourself from these potential spoilers that could come up as more players go through the game and discuss it online. Now we have news from an industry insider about future deals with Square Enix.

Recently, fans have been waiting for the exclusive deal to end for Final Fantasy XVI. Fans have pointed towards Final Fantasy XVI exclusivity ending on December 31, 2023, on Resetera. But that also had fans venting their frustration over the exclusivity ending, which doesn’t mean that we’ll ever see Xbox receive a version of the game. There are even pleas that these exclusivity deals would just come to an end and allow releases to land on multiple platforms. However, one industry insider has suggested that these exclusivity deals might only worsen.

Thanks to Wccftech, we’re finding out that Head on the Block made a new comment. Now, this individual was previously known as I’m a Hero Too, and noted on the thread that the exclusivity deals will be getting much, much worse. So, it could mean that we might never see some of these titles land on the Xbox platform going forward. These are just deals, though, and it doesn’t look to be an indicator that Sony will acquire Square Enix. So, there’s potential to see the games on rival platforms far later than before.

Of course, this is also just an insider statement for the industry. While they have a reliable track record, we’ll have to wait and see the official details for upcoming releases. Still, it might be disappointing news for fans of Square Enix titles that mainly play new games on the Xbox platform. There could even be a new surge of players taking up with Sony’s PlayStation 5 if it means getting access to these Square Enix games in the future.
