Epic Games Would Love For Nintendo To Crossover With Fortnite

December 12, 2023 by Todd Black

But Will The Big N Allow It?

UPDATE

If Nintendo were to allow their characters into Epic Games’ title, what ones would you want to see? Let us know below!

ORIGINAL STORY

To say that Epic Games has been crushing it with Fortnite is an understatement of the grandest order. They took it from a title that wasn’t even supposed to be about battle royales, turning into one about such gameplay loops, and quickly dominated the gaming world. At first, it was about expanding their modes and continually offering fans reasons to jump back into the game so they would play more. But as time went on, the motivation changed. It soon became about seasons and having skins that gamers could wear that featured their favorite characters from all walks of life.

It’s worked for them so well that Epic Games can merely tease them that new skins are coming, and the gaming world will go nuts and attempt to figure out who is arriving. We’ve already gotten hints at who is coming soon, and many will be excited. However, right before The Game Awards, Axios got to talk with Epic Games, and Saxs Persson noted that they have been trying to get one big company to crossover with Fortnite for some time: Nintendo.

So why haven’t we gotten their games in the title yet? Apparently, Nintendo isn’t willing to play ball. According to Persson, it’s just as hard to “make diamonds” as it is to get Nintendo to go on this.

“Nintendo has their strategy and we have our strategy” he stated, and would note that he hopes to get this to eventually happen because gamers would love it.

That’s a fair thing to say, and it would definitely bring more attention to both sides, especially since the Epic Game title is on the Nintendo Switch and runs pretty well.

So, you might be asking, “Why doesn’t Nintendo give Epic Games its characters?” The answer is about the game’s content. Nintendo isn’t just one to protect its “family-friendly image” but the sanctity of its characters overall. So now imagine someone like Mario or Link holding a gun and shooting at everything that moves. That’s not exactly what Nintendo would want to associate with their biggest icons.

Now, yes, some characters like Samus Aran already have weapons, but those are very sci-fi weapons that don’t fire bullets. The same goes for Mario with his weapon in a certain Ubisoft crossover series. So you can see why Nintendo is being a bit protective, as they don’t want to see its characters used in a specific way.

But if it were to happen? You can bet a huge event would be planned around it.
