Fallout 76 Shows Off More Of Atlantic City Update

October 2, 2023 by Todd Black

Is it worth playing now?

While it’s true that there are developers who seem “to never miss” with the titles that they make, it’s also fair to note that there will always be a bump in the road eventually. Bethesda is riding high right now, thanks to the arrival of their latest IP, but they’re still working to fix one of their biggest mistakes in Fallout 76. For those who don’t know, this entry in the beloved post-apocalyptic franchise came out many years ago and was aimed to be an “MMO version” of the popular RPG. But from the start, things were problematic at best.

First, the game was incredibly glitchy. Second, despite it being an MMO, the world felt “empty,” and there just didn’t seem to be that much to do. Many of the ones who did play the title stated that it lacked the “charm” and other elements that helped make the original games better. Bethesda has stuck with the game despite its issues, and now they’re gearing up for a big release that’ll expand what you can do and where you can go in the game. On the PlayStation Blog, the team highlighted being able to go to places like Atlantic City, Pittsburgh, and more.

“As a native New Jerseyan, I’d been hoping for a long time that we’d get a chance to introduce my home state to the world of Fallout,” Lead quest designer Joshua Morettolead said. “Atlantic City was the perfect opportunity for this.”

One of the things that you’ll immediately notice about the Atlantic City content is that it will have a “feel” that’s different from other cities you’ve been to. For example, there will be electricity and running water where you go. But while it has those “advances,” it also has new dangers:

“The Municipal Government keeps the lights, water and food running in Atlantic City,” explained Moretto. “Then we have the organized crime rackets of The Family, and we also have a chaotic guild of entertainers known as The Showmen. Each of them controls something vital to the continued functioning of Atlantic City.”

It’ll be your job to work your way through the factions and see all that the city has to offer. But you should be careful about going outside the city. Apparently, a forest just outside of it is growing like mad and might overtake the city if something isn’t done.

It’s clear that Fallout 76 isn’t the same game that was released years ago, and you’ll be able to enjoy the new content on December 5th.
