Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Getting Special Physical Editions With DLC

September 26, 2023 by Todd Black

If you didn’t get it before, maybe now’s the time?

Last year, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet were not only announced but eventually released. The game had one of the most unique launches in Nintendo history. How so? On the one hand, the title had the biggest software launch that Nintendo ever saw, reaching ten million units in just three days. While that would eventually be matched by a certain title from 2023, it’s still a record holder. On the other hand, the launch was infamous because of how many bugs and glitches were in the game, which was very uncharacteristic for The Pokemon Company and something that the title is still truly ragged for.

Fast forward to now, and the first part of the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC, titled “The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero,” has come out, and many are enjoying it for the most part. “The Teal Mask” is out now, and “The Indigo Disk” will arrive later this year. However, on Nintendo UK’s Twitter feed, they’ve unveiled that there will be a new physical version of Gen 9 coming out that will bundle the main campaign with the DLC:

This is not a new move by Nintendo, as they did something similar with Gen 8 and its DLC content. However, as many have noted, the physical version won’t have both DLCs at launch because The Indigo Disk hasn’t been released yet, nor has it been dated. According to the tweet, the new physical launch will happen on November 3rd. It’ll be interesting if Nintendo attempts to get the DLC’s second part out by then or if they’ll at least try and give the release date.

In “The Teal Mask,” players are selected to go to a new land called Kitakami, where they’ll meet new people and partake in a local festival and legend involving four legendary Pokemon. The new land offers new places to explore and plenty of Pokemon to catch, including ones exclusive to the region. The story within the first part will directly tie into Part 2 when it arrives later this year.

In “The Indigo Disk,” players will be part of an exchange program where they’ll go to the Blueberry Academy, a special school that floats on the ocean near a familiar region. Outside of meeting more new people, you’ll have access to a massive space where all kinds of Pokemon live, including a legendary Pokemon you’ll eventually encounter.

Currently, the new physical bundle for the games is said to arrive in the UK and Japan, there is no word on a US release date yet.
