I’m sure you are familiar with Ubisoft’s obstacles from earlier in the year. We’ve seen plenty of reports of different projects being canceled. Then some projects were pushed further back, like Skull and Bones, a title that just can’t escape development hell. Regardless, a few years ago, during the pandemic, we had a new IP from the folks behind Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Ubisoft delivered Immortals Fenyx Rising, a game that saw favorable reviews despite not being the smash hit Ubisoft likely had hoped for.
With that said, it seems that the developers were looking to bring out a sequel to this 2020 action-adventure title. A report from VGC goes on to say that a sequel was in development, and the team was only in early in the project at Ubisoft Quebec. However, the developers found Ubisoft canceled the game this month. It looks like there might have been concern that this sequel wouldn’t captivate players enough to persuade them to check out the game. But again, we’ve heard reports in the past that the focus at Ubisoft was to work on their core franchises that have a strong following.
VGC’s sources didn’t offer much more than that the project was canceled, and it seems that this was going to be a game installment that took on another set of mythologies outside of Greece. If you don’t recall, Immortals Fenyx Rising was a game that pinned players into a hero that was forced into saving the Greek gods from a devastating force. But it looks like this IP will remain a one-off for now. Of course, with that said, you can still enjoy the original game as it’s already been released in the marketplace.
While this is nothing official right now, it doesn’t look like Ubisoft is keen on sharing any insight into the IP or potential sequel. VGC did reach out, and a spokesperson stated that Ubisoft does not comment on rumors or speculation pieces. But again, if you have yet to play Immortals Fenyx Rising, then the game is available to pick up and play right now for the PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch platforms. We also have a Before You Buy video coverage of the game, which you can view down below.
