The ESRB has rated Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and Windows Phone 7.
Conspicuously absent is any mention of an Android or iOS version, both of which were confirmed as platforms by Sega when the game was announced. The likely explanation is that Episode II will see a staggered launch, with the already rated platforms getting first priority.
On the other hand, the absence of a Wii rating was expected, as Sonic 4 brand manager Ken Balough told forum-goers that the game would not be coming to Nintendo's WiiWare service "for reasons most people have probably guessed."
With the game now past the ESRB milestone, expect Sega to announce a release date for one or more platforms in the very near future.
Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I was released back in October of 2010 to average reviews, with the most common complaint being that gameplay had drifted too far from the classic 2D Sonic formula.
