Video games are getting bigger and better with every console generation. A new heap of hardware becomes available, further unlocking the power and possibilities for developers when creating a video game experience. These AAA releases’ results can be massive and incredibly detailed. But that could also mean an uptick in complexity which means you’ll be dealing with more problems trying to get through the game. If that’s the case, Sony hopes to avoid you moving away from the console in search of a walkthrough. Instead, a new patent discovery shows Sony wants to connect players with each other for these instances.
A patent that was uncovered by SegmentNext reveals Sony has an idea to connect players with each other. The patent would allow players to connect a struggling player with an expert. From there, the consoles would connect, enabling the expert to aid the player through a difficult portion of the game. So those stuck on a challenging boss battle, platforming section, or just a brain teaser, they’ll get to pass the controller over virtually to someone a bit more skilled. That should hopefully end the need to steer away from the game to an online walkthrough or YouTube video.
Of course, this is not the first time Sony has introduced a means to provide players with a helping hand. There is also Game Help for the PlayStation 5. Through PlayStation Plus, players can access Game Help which is a feature to provide hints, tips, and even walkthrough videos from developers. This way, if you’re stuck on a section of the game, then you’ll have immediate help right on the console. So this patent looks to further expand on this idea, but again, it’s only a patent right now.
We see patents all the time released online that give a bit of a look into a company in terms of their intentions. But these are just ideas and nothing that gives a definitive look at what’s being worked on. Some of these patents never see any actual fruition, so we can’t say if this is a feature we’ll see come to the PlayStation 5 anytime soon or at all. Although, it does prove to be interesting, and it would be neat to see if there are any incentives for players to become an expert while having some kind of means to avoid players grieving one another if this is a case of the community aiding each other.
