Respawn has revealed new job openings for their next Star Wars Jedi game.
As reported by Exputer, the studio is actually looking for a principal game writer. As best as we can tell, Star Wars Jedi,’s own writers, Danny Homan and Pete Stewart, remain gainfully employed by Respawn. If neither Danny nor Pete were taken off this upcoming Star Wars Jedi, it means something else that could be exciting to fans.
It probably means that the next Star Wars Jedi game will be even bigger than the two that came before it. If Respawn is set on making this a trilogy, they are going to have to put in a bit more extra to sum up Cal Kestis’ story in a satisfying way, including tying up whatever loose ends remain in his part of the Star Wars mythology, as well as his own character arc.
Other openings are up for senior VFX artists, supporting the idea that the studio will be expanding on the next Star Wars Jedi. While we are only seeing openings for senior positions, EA likely has plans to get even more lower level staff, possibly hiring in Respawn’s home base, or possibly outsourcing that work to other smaller studios.
It only stands to reason that Respawn and EA are looking to expand on the Star Wars Jedi series, given the games’ commercial and critical success.
Fans lauded Star Wars Jedi: Survivor as Sony’s Player’s Choice Award for April. This was voting that Sony opened up for games that released on PlayStation, and were voted on by the fans. That distinction is certainly not as big as winning a Game Award or a BAFTA; but it’s a strong indication of the reputation the game, and franchise as a whole, has with the fans.
Respawn reportedly have two other Star Wars projects in development as well, a reward for their good work and the success is has seen. One will be a single player FPS inspired by the Jedi Knight video games.
The second project is a strategy game they are producing with Bit Reactor. Bit Reactor itself is comprised of staffers who worked on other classic strategy games, including XCOM and Civilization.
It will likewise be interesting to see if Respawn decides to tie all these games they are producing to each other. While LucasArts will have to sign off on such things, they will likely get approval for something like that if they decided to go for it.
