Street Fighter 6 Called Best In The Series By Reviewers

May 30, 2023 by Todd Black

The fight we’ve been waiting for!

Are you willing to correct a mistake you made in the past via the next decision you have? That is something game developers often have to ask themselves. If they take a misstep with a gaming franchise, they have to ask whether to correct what fans and critics called out or double down and attempt to prove that they were right in the first place. This has led to much frustration over the years, and with Capcom’s beloved fighting game series, there have been many mistakes in recent years. But based on the reviews of Street Fighter 6, they made up for their past flaws in spades.

The review embargo dropped for the game today, and based on the PS5 version on Metacritic, the game isn’t just good. It’s great, possibly even legendary! The game stands at a 92 score, which is fifteen points ahead of what the original version of the last mainline entry got. The “Championship Edition” did better, but that was meant to be a better version of the fifth game.

What’s also important to note is that numerous websites gave the game a perfect score, including heavy hitters like ComicBook.com and VGC. Plus, of the 58 reviews for the PS5 version, only one of them ranks as “mixed,” and the rest are extremely positive.

So what are they saying about Street Fighter 6?

Many pointed out that Capcom crafted an incredible fighting game experience not only for veterans who have been with the series a long time but for newcomers who are just starting to tip their toes into the genre. We know that Capcom developed multiple control schemes to fit the skill levels of players, and clearly, it worked the way they hoped.

Another thing they stated was that the game was “feature-rich” and that everything looked and felt crisp and fun. They backed that up by saying how Capcom brought the game into the “modern era” with how it plays, the robust mechanics, and more.

According to some, the only “downside” is the story mode. Some noted the story drags and is rather dull. But that’s hardly a negative in this case because most people are there to battle it out online and test their skills against the world. To that end, those modes seem to have done well too!

If the game’s sales back up these review scores, Capcom has yet another hit in 2023. The title releases on June 2nd!
