A new rumor has come up regarding pre-order bonuses for the next Call of Duty game.
The rumor goes that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be pre-order bonuses for the next game in the series. Implicit in this rumor is the suggestion that Infinity Ward, who made the Modern Warfare games, will make a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
Infinity Ward released Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare on 2007 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on 2009. There was also a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on 2011. All three games were released on seventh-generation consoles; PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. All three were also ported to Windows, and had special versions made for Wii and Nintendo DS. If Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is coming up next, it will be the first Modern Warfare game for eight generation consoles.
The Modern Warfare games tell a continuing story of a fictional conflict between the US and the Russian Federation set in modern times and instigated by a grand conspiracy of Russian terrorists. The games have been commercial and critical successes, and have also been a source of controversy, notably because of ‘No Russian’, a mission where the player joins in a terrorist attack in an airport.
Earlier rumors suggested that the next Call of Duty would be Call of Duty: Ghosts 2. On their end, Activision officially announced they would have a smaller presence at this year’s E3.
