Is A Legend of Zelda Nintendo Direct Coming Next Week?

January 12, 2023 by Todd Black

Given that it’s a new year and we’re almost two weeks into it, it was only a matter of time before the rumors started to fly. After all, what’s a new year without someone randomly claiming that something big will happen? So what’s the big rumor that’s already flying around the internet? That would be that a Nintendo Direct is coming! For you Nintendo fans out there, that shouldn’t be much of a shock, as fans and “insiders” often guess that a new Direct is coming about every month or so. However, this rumor from Reddit claims that the focus of said direct is the Legend of Zelda.

More than likely, they’re referring to how The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is coming out in May, barring a delay, and thus the Direct will detail that more. That would be reasonable based on past history. Nintendo loves to do their “sweeping” Nintendo Directs, where they talk about as many games as possible and hope you enjoy at least one of the announcements. However, they are also known for their “singular” Nintendo Directs, where they tell you about one game and go into as much detail as possible without spoiling things.

For example, in the past, we’ve gotten such directs about Pokemon, Xenoblade Chronicles, Splatoon, and more. So them doing one about the upcoming Tears of the Kingdom isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

That goes double for the fact that we still know precious little about the anticipated title. The most recent trailer gave us the name of the game and some teases about what’s to come, but that’s it. As such, a focused Nintendo Direct detailing what happens in the early parts of the game and what Link’s quest will be would be welcomed by gamers.

You’re sensing the twist coming, right? Good, because here it is. While said “rumor maker” did make this statement on Reddit, he was immediately called out for it because he didn’t have a true source. The comments section is filled with statements noting how the person making the claim is unreliable and often makes statements for clickbait. The poster even deleted the statement from Reddit.

Another “red flag” here is that while Nintendo has done focused Nintendo Directs, they tend to be closer to the game’s actual launch. A more likely Direct to anticipate is one that focuses on all that is coming in 2023, possibly in February or March.
