Ed Boon Asks Questions About Mortal Kombat DLC Packs

December 12, 2022 by Todd Black

More teases of what’s coming?

If you’ve been paying attention to Twitter recently and following the posts by NetherRealm Studios head Ed Boon, you’ll know that he’s been making some very interesting statements. Primarily, he’s been teasing all sorts of things about what might come next from the studio. That information is something fans desperately want to know, given that the dev team makes great games. One of the tweets he made yesterday has turned many heads as it differed from the previous statements. He opened a poll to discuss the DLC from past Mortal Kombat games and which ones they’d like “remade.”

As you know, starting with Mortal Kombat 9, the games have had DLC characters enter the fray, and there have been some very diverse characters put into the roster as a result. We’ve gotten everything from Kratos to Rambo! So it’s honestly a big deal when these reveal trailers for the DLC come out, as they always reveal the next few characters that are coming.

In the poll, Ed Boon cited 11 characters via three packs that could be “remade” for a future game. He lumped them into the “Action Pack,” the “Horror Pack,” and the “Comic Pack” and let gamers choose which ones they’d want the most.

What DLC fighter pack (remake) would you be most hyped for?

A) Action Pack: Alien, Predator, Terminator, Robocop

B) Horror Pack: Jason, Freddy, Texas Chainsaw + 1 new.

C) Comic Pack: Spawn, Joker, Ninja Turtles, Batgirl

Eagle-eyed fans will know that there are some omissions in the DLC. For example, the “action pack” doesn’t have John Rambo despite him definitely being an action movie star. Likewise, in the comic pack, there isn’t a mention of Hellboy. That might have been because of the character limit, but it’s hard to say.

The real question is why Ed Boon would want to talk about remakes of DLC packs. It could be a random question based on a thought he had. Or he might be looking ahead to the future of the Mortal Kombat series.

After all, Boon has repeatedly been teasing things over the last several weeks. First, he confirmed that the next game from NetherRealm Studios would be the 12th entry of their beloved franchise or Injustice 3. Then, another tease he posted noted that we’re likely to find out the answer in the next six months.

At this point, it’s honestly a bit cruel what Ed Boon is doing. He knows what the team is up to but won’t tell the fans. Instead, he’s likely trying to get gamers into a fervor so that when the announcement comes, it’ll go viral. As such, you likely can expect more teases like this in the future.
