GTA Online Reveals Los Santos Drug Wars Update

December 8, 2022 by Todd Black

Yep, someone’s breaking bad.

When GTA V launched almost ten years ago, it didn’t launch alone. Instead, Rockstar Games took a gamble by having an online mode for players to have fun with outside of the primary campaign of the title. GTA Online would give players the freedom and ability to craft their own criminal empires within the city of Los Santos. They could work with friends to build up their empire, get all sorts of cars, stick it to other players, and, of course, take on insane missions. The online extension was such a surprise hit that Rockstar eventually started selling it separately.

What’s more, it was the reason why GTA 6 didn’t get started for a long time. The online version of the game kept making money without much issue! So why not milk that cow until there’s nothing left to get? Right? While the new game is developing, GTA Online is still getting updates almost a decade later. True to form, Rockstart Games isn’t holding back in terms of its ideas.

The next update is called “Los Santos Drug Wars,” and you can bet things will get super chaotic. In the update, you’ll head to Blaine County to encounter Nervous Ron. What does he want? Well, he wants you to go make drugs. Psychedelics, to be more specific. But, obviously, that won’t be the easiest thing in the world, considering you’ll have to deal with hippies and bikers who want to stop your tradecraft, because why should you be able to do things easily?

Alongside that story-focused content, you’ll get new cars to drive, new missions to take on, and in the end, a new business that you can operate to expand your empire further. Rockstar Games also noted that this is part one of a two-part update. They were a bit tight-lipped about that second part, but that could mean that it’s a really big content update, and you’ll want to see what it is when it’s all wrapped up.

Another thing Rockstar is doing is bringing some quality-of-life changes to the title based on fan feedback. That includes some next-gen upgrades for gamers to enjoy. So if you’ve been hoping for such things, you might not have to wait too much longer.

It’s good to know that fans of the game can continue it for some time as they wait for the next main entry. After all, we have no indication of when the sixth entry will arrive.
