New Trio Of Characters Revealed For Fire Emblem Engage

December 6, 2022 by Todd Black

Two villains and a “thief”?

It seems that Fire Emblem Engage is following a pattern lately. At first, they only did character descriptions to show the people we would meet in the upcoming title. Then they shifted a bit and started to reveal the characters and abilities of the Emblem Rings. We just had one yesterday, so it’s time for another set of character descriptions. Sure enough, three characters got the spotlight in the newest post that got translated. But while two of the characters that have been revealed are confirmed to be villains, the third is a bit ambiguous, depending on how you look at it.

The first of the three is Griss. He is one of the Four Hounds. If you didn’t see the character description that mentioned that group before, it’s one of the enemy groups. Specifically, they are a group determined to resurrect the Fell Dragon, which puts them in direct conflict with Alear, the main character. Solidifying their evil nature, Griss is an unhinged magic user who loves using violence and unleashing his power on foes. But, curiously, he doesn’t trust the group’s leader, Zephia.

Second is Mauvier, who is another member of the Four Hounds. In contrast to Griss, he is a level-headed man with qualities that include having honor and loyalty. But if that is the case, why is he trying to resurrect a being with no honor? Is there something more going on with this character than we’re seeing?

Finally, there’s Yunaka. The reason that Yunaka is hard to pin down on the “scale of good and evil” is that her description doesn’t give us much to go on. She’s called a “mysterious woman,” and you’ll meet her as you travel. She’s also cheerful and energetic and can easily make friends, but that’s not always proof of being a good person. Adding to the confusion is that she’s a Thief-Class. Granted, many games in the series have given players access to thieves, but something about Yunaka’s look seems to indicate there’s more going on here than meets the eye. We’ll have to wait and see to get more information.

You can see the three characters “in action” in the mini-trailer below. These character descriptions are getting more frequent, and we still have well over a month before Fire Emblem Engage releases on Nintendo Switch. Perhaps the team wants to get everyone revealed before they make a big announcement. Only time will tell.
