Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin DLC Details Revealed

October 18, 2022 by Carley Garcia

Gilgamesh is back.

Last month, fans were thrilled to hear that Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin would be adding the Wanderer of the Rift DLC on October 26. Despite initial feedback to Team Ninja’s take on the first Final Fantasy title being largely negative, the title has managed to grow and evolve with continuous patches from the dev team and love from franchise fans. Details about the new DLC have been sparse, with only the addition of a new dungeon and a new class–Blue Mage–being teased in September. Now, more information has come to light less than two weeks before the release of this new content.

A full trailer for Warrior of the Rift has been uploaded to YouTube, showing off the Blue Mage class, hints at new additions to the main story, and more. This DLC takes place directly after the first DLC, Trials of the Dragon King. As many fans will notice, Gilgamesh is back this time around–the character first appeared in Final Fantasy V in 1992 and has appeared in many games since, including the popular MMO Final Fantasy XIV.

Check out the launch trailer for Wanderer of the Rift below.

As expected, players will take on Gilgamesh and his massive collection of swords, spears, and projectiles. Curiously, his appearance also summons the Rift Labyrinth, which will allow players to engage with a new story arc and play through randomly constructed short dungeons.

Warrior of the Rift will introduce the Blue Mage class to Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin. Many longtime fans of the series will be familiar with this more unique job–as a Blue Mage encounters more and more enemies in the wild, they become able to learn enemy attacks and abilities to utilize later.

The DLC will also introduce Monster Bells, which are items allowing a player to instantly call on a monster to act as support during battle. To do this, players must first find a summonstone and complete a special event. It will even be necessary to speak with your monster of choice and feed it when needed. Once your affinity reaches a certain level, the beast will become your friend, ready to jump into the line of fire when a battle gets tough.

A new difficulty level, aptly named Gilgamesh, will feature monsters infused with dark and chaotic energy. These beasts are more dangerous than standard monsters, and when defeated, they will hand out incredibly nice rewards.

A curious entry to the Final Fantasy franchise, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin was developed by Team Ninja and published by Square Enix to celebrate the series’ 35th anniversary. The game is set in an alternate universe of the original Final Fantasy title and follows a group of characters brought into a fantasy world to take on the evil Chaos.

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin was released on March 18, 2022 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.
