Fire Emblem Engage Announced, Releasing in January

September 13, 2022 by Todd Black

Legends unite for a new title!

There have been a lot of rumors surrounding the Fire Emblem franchise as of late. With rumors of a brand new title coming soon, there were even leaks about the gameplay and look of the title. Today, the Nintendo Direct kicked off strong with the reveal of Fire Emblem Engage, a new game that’ll blend a new story with past Fire Emblem characters! The game looks truly interesting with its mix of styles and stunning visuals and is giving players a new kind of main character to play and a new gameplay gimmick that’ll surely please fans as a whole.

In this case, the story puts you in the realm of Elyos. Long ago, there was a mighty war against a beast known as the Fell Dragon, and to defeat it, the people called upon legendary heroes that they called “Emblems” to gain new power and strike it down. They were successful and their lands were able to finally have peace. But as you can guess, the peace wouldn’t last, and the “bonds” that were put upon the Fell Dragon were weakened, ensuring that it would return once again.

Enter your character, who is not named at present, but is a divine dragon and one who apparently comes from a family of them. Your memories aren’t fully intact, but you pledge to help the people of Elyos in order to gather a set of rings and bring peace to the land once again.

Those rings though are the key twist in Fire Emblem Engage. Why? Because these rings are how you’re going to summon the characters from past titles. With them, you’ll be able to unlock special attacks, boost abilities, and even merge with the characters in certain ways in order to unleash even more devastating strikes.

The characters that were shown or teased for you to summon include Marth, Celica, Sigurd, Micaiah, Lyn, Roy, and more. Opening up all sorts of possibilities in terms of whom you bring to the battlefield, and what kind of strategies you’ll do on the battlefield.

It should be noted that the “Standard” style of Fire Emblem titles is present here. It’ll be turned-based combat, and just as important, they’ve updated certain things like the UI features to be a bit more stylish. The looks of the game seem great as well, with crisp graphics and very beautiful cutscenes.

This is definitely a unique way for them to go about the series, but more than likely fans are going to enjoy it when it arrives as they’ll want to go on this brand new adventure with new and old friends.

Watch the reveal trailer below! The game will arrive on January 20, 2023.
