Yahoo! Games, among other outlets, have awarded Rocksteady’s new Arkham City absurd ratings that go beyond their scoring limits, inflating the game’s MetaCritic average to 95% and 96% on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 respectively.
Thanks to Yahoo! Games, which gave the game a score of 6 out of 5, the game’s average score has rose beyond otherwise unattainable numbers, which leads us to question the feasibility of the current scoring system. As Ben Abraham notes on Twitter, it’s as if publications are “actually transitioning to the abstract scoring system. 9 frogs out of a leprechaun!”
At this rate, we may have to do away with the 7-9 scoring system and embrace a new age of madness. And perhaps, for once, readers will actually consider reading what the reviewer has to say about a game instead of scrolling all the way to the bottom to check the score.
