Fan-Made Starcraft Universe Now Playable

October 19, 2011 by Karol Sultanescu

This fans created map, playable in Blizzard’s Starcraft 2, is a whole game in and out of itself, making use of the RTS bones of the base game while creating a whole new experience.

Starcraft Universe has been in the making from the people over at SC2Mapster for a while now, and it’s looking like it has picked up quite a bit of steam in the hiatus in which we have not heard much about it.

Suddenly, it’s available to play – give it a search as it pops up in the Battle.Net later today. The map will be available until the end of the month. Please note that Starcraft Universe is a fan-made custom game map in Starcraft 2 and you cannot play it without Starcraft 2.

While I love what they have done with the engine’s capabilities, I can’t help but wonder where the limitations (which are quite severe, mind you) will start to put serious dents into what the modders can do with the map. There is only so much content you can cram into 10MB.
