CCP, the company that has brought and maintains the world of EVE Online, as well as the developers of the upcoming DUST 514 and World of Darkness, has issued a press release stating that they will be laying off about 20% of their staff worldwide.
According to the CCP Manifest, most of the layoffs will occur in the company's Atlanta, Georgia offices, with select positions at the Reykjavik, Iceland camp also affected.
The manifest says that the multiple EVE expansions, DUST, and the upcoming World od Darkness have stretched CCP’s resources too thin – they have moved towards sharpening their focus instead. EVE Online and DUST 514 will receive more attention, while World of Darkness will “continue development with a significantly reduced team.” What this means in terms of the release schedule of the game is anybody's guess (except CCP's).
Despite the move, the manifest also states that subscriber numbers for EVE have actually gone up since last year – so the company is definitely not closing.
