Proving once again that it can sell all the handheld systems, Nintendo has recently announced that it has passed the 50 million sales mark with the original Nintendo DS.
The press release with this info has a bunch of factoids in it, too. Did you know, for instance, that the DS is the best selling video game system in the United States? Or that the DS family is selling more than 107,000 games every single day for the past seven years? Or that the DS family has sold 43 of the top 50 best selling portable games this generation?
I for one, did not know all of that. Of course, most of that information probably has some asterisks attached that strongly change the way one contextualizes the information. Are they counting mobile games in the 'best selling portable games', for instance? Who knows, but it's probably not a stretch to say that the DS has done ridiculously well regardless.
