DICE: There’s Still A Market For Mirror’s Edge 2

October 9, 2011 by Mat Growcott

DICE know where they went wrong with Mirror’s Edge, and they can fix all that in a sequel that may or may not ever be developer. Ahh, the games industry.

A brief history of Mirror's Edge: announced mid-2007, it releases to the general public a little over a year later. The press generally go mad over it (with a few exceptions) and it gathers something of a cult following, helped perhaps by the fact that you can buy it brand new for less than a tenner. Fans scream for a sequel and EA, despite poor sales, confirm that a sequel is in the works.

And then the sequel is apparently cancelled, despite Frank Gibeau of EA saying that Mirror's Edge is an important franchise.

The speculation should have ended there, but of course, it doesn't. Egged on by the fact that no developer ever out and out denied development ("We have nothing to announce at this time") and constant rumblings of a sequel in development, those that enjoyed the original still live in hope that Faith will return – complete with crazy hair cut.

DICE producer Patrick Liu will fire the flame this week when, in an interview with SPOnG, he said that Mirror's Edge was something that "something that people are ready to get into again."

"We see that there’s a huge fan following, it’s almost like a cult! And we know what strengths we had, and what weaknesses we had in that game. If we were to release a new game, we’d know what to improve and how to reach a broader audience. So I definitely think there’s a market there."

Indeed…
