Gather round, and let’s take a break from holiday cheer to talk about something more exciting. Dontnod Entertainment’s Philippe Moreau took to the PlayStation blog to shed some light on the upcoming game Vampyr. One of the big takeaways is that Vampyr aims to tell a true gothic story, which is evident in its tone and atmosphere.
“England was recovering from the aftermath of the World War I, and the Spanish Flu was making its way through London’s winding alleys. The streets were rife with death and crime, but England was also going through many social and political changes, as new sciences sought to re-envision the way we see the world. Superstition was becoming less socially relevant, but it was still in the streets, folklore, and politics of London, so science was on the rise, but the world was still a dark, scary place. Especially the smoggy, smokey, war-torn streets of London.”
The game follows protagonist Jonathan Reid, a doctor and skeptic who finds that he may be becoming a vampire. Much of the gameplay revolves around deciding who you must kill to survive. If that doesn’t intrigue you, I don’t know what will.
Dontnod has been quiet about the game, which will launch in 2017 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Hopefully we’ll get more of a glimpse in the near future.
