The Fullbright Company announced today that Gone Home will make its console release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 12, 2016. The console version has been developed by Fullbright, instead of being taken on by a contracted developer. It was built using the Unity 5 Engine, instead of the Unity 4 engine used to create the original PC version. There will also be 90 minutes of developer commentary with the console version, something that was also added to the PC version for free after its initial launch.
The console edition of the game will be released in partnership with Midnight City, despite that company’s financial troubles. Steve Gaynor said earlier in the year that the deal with the label had ended. The situation has apparently changed since then.
Gone Home originally launched on PC in 2013 to almost unanimous praise from gaming critics. We called it one of the best game mysteries of all time. The Fullbright company is currently working on Tacoma, another first-person exploration game. The new title, which takes place on an abandoned space station instead of an empty Oregon home, is due out in early 2016 for PC and Xbox One.
