Steam Now Lets You Remove Games Permanently, With The DLC, But Not Bundles

December 4, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

It should stand to reason, the way Valve thinks, they won’t force you to remove games if you don’t want to.

Hell didn’t freeze over, and pigs aren’t flying, but the seemingly impossible happened today.

Valve has finally given gamers a way to remove games from their accounts. By remove, I don’t just mean hide. You finally have a way to completely get rid of games you no longer want on your Steam account for whatever reason, whether the games suck, they’re broken, you have duplicates elsewhere, or you no longer want them. Valve has, of course, given fans plenty of ways around this already, but finally adding it in means they're committed to listening to fans.

So, here’s what you do:

1.       Click on Help, and then Steam Support

2.       From this screen, click on the game if its under recent products, or search for it by clicking games, apps and more, and then find and select it. In this case, I’m selecting Vanguard Princess, which I bought on its own, and then acquired the DLC separately a few months later.

3.       As you can see, from this screen, you are immediately asked outright if you want to remove the game permanently, or choose a different issue.

4.       From there, you get one final ‘are you sure?’ screen before you can delete it completely. Note that it will remove both my copy of the game, and the DLC. Again, bear in mind I bought these separately.

I tried this process with a different game and can vouch that it works. When I revisited the store page of the game I deleted from my account, Steam sees me as not owning the game, and gives me the choice to buy it again.

I can also say, contrary to what our source says, it did not delete other games I had in the game bundle I got it from. The popups I have don’t indicate that other games will be deleted either. Instead, it will remove the DLC and add-on content associated with your game.

Are you already planning out what games to remove? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
