Playstation Could Host State of Play Next Week

June 20, 2022 by Ophelie Castelot

Could the next PlayStation event happen before July?

PlayStation has several updates to announce regarding both games and hardware. The next State of Play could be coming sooner than expected – maybe even next week.

Three Major Announcements Coming Next Week

Kazunori Yamauchi, the producer of the Gran Turismo series, teased an update about Gran Turismo 7 coming next week. The game launched last March and received mixed reviews. While the graphics and gameplay were praised, Gran Turismo 7 was a victim of review bombing on Metacritic because of its microtransactions. The game still broke records all over the world, becoming the best-selling game in Japan and the UK on its release week and breaking the franchise record of the highest-grossing launch month sales for a Gran Turismo title.

Jason Schreier reported that Sony is expected to announce the release date of God of War Ragnarok later this month, according to two sources. Sony revealed this sequel to 2018’s God of War in 2020. The game will follow the latest adventures of Kratos and his son Atreus. This ninth installment in the God of War series will be based on Norse mythology, just like its predecessor. The game is expected for October 2022, but Sony and Santa Monica Studios haven’t announced the official release date yet.

Last but not least, Sony should announce the new “professional” controllers for the PlayStation 5. This new version of the DualSense controller brings removable stick units and grips, as well as a trigger stop. Sony should unveil more details about the PlayStation 5 Pro controller in the upcoming weeks.

Sony usually announces its biggest games and hardware updates during State of Play. The last State of Play dates back to June 2. During this event, Sony announced various games, such as Street Fighter 6 and Horizon Call of the Mountain. Considering the recent teases about new announcements, Sony could announce a new State of Play next week.
