2015 has been a great year for eSports, and Activision Blizzard just hedged a big bet towards its growing popularity. The 2016 Hearthstone World Championship prize pool will consist of $1 million, four times larger than 2015’s $250,000 pool. Despite the increase in prize money, the competition will still remain the same size.
Additionally, Activision Blizzard plans to have additional $100,000 prize pools for nine different preliminary events. Combined, the company will pay out nearly $2 million in prizes, which isn’t surprising given how much they’ve bolstered their new eSports division. The first event, DreamHack Winter 2015, begins November 25 and will last until November 29.
