There have been a lot of trends in media, and not all of them pan out. Lately, the trend has steered towards live-action adaptations of both video games, anime, and manga properties. While there have been some hits like with the recent Sonic the Hedgehog movies, most anime adaptations are widely disliked, with most preferring the originals. Yet studios continue on, and the next property on the chopping block appears to be One-Punch Man.
This superhero anime features a main character who is so impossibly strong that he can take out all enemies in one single punch, with this gimmick being a huge part of the show’s story. The character, Saitama, wants to be the best hero–yet technically already that due to his impossible strength level. People don’t believe his strength though until they see it up close, so thus they think he’s a fraud.
The popular series is now inspiring a live-action film, now set to be headed up by Justin Lin.

Many will remember Lin as the director of the recent Fast & Furious films–until he left production days into filming.
It’ll also be interesting to see if this film adapts the more violent and mature themes of the story itself. Guess we’ll just have to see when it comes out.
