Following the announcements for new games, some interesting listings appeared for Virtual Console. These were for games forPokemon and The Legend of Zelda, and another surprise dark horse.
For Pokemon, the original games, Pokemon Red, Blue, and Green, as well as Pokemon Yellow, are finally seeing release as the first mainline Pokemon games on Wii U Virtual Console. These games have never hit Virtual Console until now. Note that Pokemon Green was never released outside Japan, only its remake, Pokemon Firegreen.
For Europe, Nintendo stealthily added new listings for the Nintendo DS Zelda games, namely The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. No word when they will hit the US, but it’s possible these games are waiting for release closer to Black Friday.
Finally, and possibly the biggest announcement of the bunch, Mother 3 was confirmed for release in Japan on the Wii U Virtual Console. It will release this December 17. While Nintendo of America once again seems mum on the situation, this follows Earthbound and Earthbound Beginnings getting releases in Japan during the holidays, and then released on the US over the summer.
Mother 3 was never released outside Japan, but it did come out April 20, 2006. Alongside Kid Icarus, Metroid, and The Legend of Zelda,Mother 3 will have a huge anniversary next year, the perfect date for a rerelease.
Of course, Mother 3's protagonist, Lucas, happens to have an amiibo in the works. Do you think Nintendo will add some amiibo functionality for Mother 3? Is that even something you want? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
