Dan Borth of Red Fly Studio recently held an AMA on Reddit that reveals a long-cancelled Darth Maul game may be making a return. The game was originally cancelled by LucasArts in 2011, presumably so George Lucas could clear the table for the Disney buyout. The AMA garnered a lot of attention and questions about the would-be project. One of the biggest bits of information to come out of the discussion is that Red Fly Studio is working on a new next-gen demo reel to pitch to EA, hopefully so that the project can be revived.
In the video embedded at the bottom of the article, we can see footage of the project. While the game had barely gotten out of the concept stage, it looks like Red Fly Studio was intending to incorporate combat similar to the Arkham games and Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor.
In the AMA, Borth says that the game was meant to start when Maul is about 9 or 10 years old, and end just before Episode 1: “We wanted to show what he went through to become a Sith. Showcase the torture the Emperor put him through. Show how you as the player would have made the same mistakes and ended up a Sith.” He says he understands the studio’s chances are low, but hopes EA sees the value in the project.
At one point, the studio was trending in the top 5 Facebook news stories, and continued to encourage community members to voice their support of the project on social media. If such a project is officially announced by EA, you’ll find the news here. You can read about recent DLC teases for Star Wars Battlefront, EA’s upcoming shooter, here.
