As we draw ever closer to the premiere of Obi-Wan Kenobi, there are various things that fans looking forward to overall. First off, they’re just happy to see Ewan McGregor in the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi again, that goes without saying. But, they’re also happy that we’re going to “bridge the gap” between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, as well as getting to see the return of Darth Vader (outside of the Rogue One cameo) starring none other than Hayden Christensen once more.
And according to the actor, for Darth Vader, this mission means everything to him in this limited series:
“Vader is at a pivotal time in his life. He’s spent ten years now sort of imprisoned in this suit and in his new life, and how all of that has affected him. There’s a lot of great character exploration there,” Christensen said in an interview. “I don’t want to give anything away, but there’s really sort of a struggle of identity with Vader. I think that’s at the core of who he is. And in this, we get to explore that.”
“His pursuit of the Jedi and trying to find Obi-Wan Kenobi, it’s a personal mission for him,” Christensen noted of Darth Vader’s quest for revenge. “I’m excited for people to see it.”
Many are excited to see it too. Especially since we KNOW that these two WILL clash and have the rematch that fans are eager to see happen. The only real question is that of how long will Darth Vader himself be in the series? We know that the show is only six episodes (or at least, the first season will be…), and we’ve seen teases for Vader in the multiple trailers. But just how much of him will we see before and after the clash? We’ll have to wait and find out.
