Lead designer on Riot Games’ research and development division Ryan Scott divulged his new position at the game developer earlier today on Twitter after announcing that he no longer has a hand in League of Legends.
"Hey guys, sorry, but can't answer lol questions since I work on R&D". Profile still says I work on lol. Derp! Fixed 🙂

Scott was unable to share specific details about what his project in the research and development division at Riot exactly is. He did, however, tease a few details. When asked what he is working on, he said, “…trying to get the ‘s’ in the Riot Games name,” pointing out the contradiction between the company’s name and the fact that it only has one game on the market currently.
@divinewindx no deets for awhile, but trying to get the "s" in the Riot Games name 🙂

When asked if his current project is something along the lines of “the recent Blitzcrank flashgame [sic] or even bigger things,” Scott replied, “Bigger, like standalone games (for my project at least!).”
@CassBuffsWhen bigger, like complete standalone games (for my project at least!)

As to whether this unannounced project would be revealed “in the near future,” Scott said, “Unless we can’t figure it out at all (I consider that highly unlikely), yes!”

Finally, Scott said that his project is “pretty broad” where genre is concerned.
“The important thing for us is to make something meaningful, not a ‘me too’ game,” Scott said. “Some [R&D projects] will use the [League of Legends] IP, others won’t.”
@Bronain indeed. Some will use the lol IP, others won't
