Activision has revealed the formation of a Call of Duty World League, which will offer $3 million in prize money, and begin in January.
The global eSports initiative aims to "provide a deeper level of engagement with the elite circuit of professional gamers, while also encouraging casual fans and aspiring competitors of Call of Duty to enjoy the thrill of competition across different skill levels."
Two divisions will make up the League, The Pro Division and The Challenge Division, each of which will lead to the Call of Duty Championship grand final.
A Pro Division regular season will be available for teams in Australia, Europe, New Zealand, and North America for the chance to compete in the final.
Amateur players can take part in the Challenge Division, with the winning teams from this division earning a Championship spot by competing in official LAN events.
The Call of Duty Championship next year will take place in the autumn rather than spring as a result of the new structure.
Call of Duty Black Ops 3 launches November 6th.
