Black Spindle, the Exotic Sniper Rifle that's given to players as a reward for completing a hidden objective in The Taken King mission Lost to Light during Daily Heroic Story runs is getting a nerf. The weapon itself is an Exotic Year Two version of the popular sniper rifle from last year, Black Hammer.
As we describe in our guide, acquisition of the weapon isn't easy to do, even when you're relatively well-equipped. However, it's an extremely powerful weapon with 310 Attack as a base stat, making it one of the most powerful weapons currently in the game. Most Exotic items you'll find in The Taken King are at 290 and below, and require infusions to become more powerful.
Bungie has found that this makes the weapon a little too powerful, so they plan to nerf it down to 290.
Here's what DeeJ, the game's Community Manager wrote on the official forums:
Hello, Guardians.
Right this every minute, many of you are acquiring Black Spindle. Surprise!
Wouldn’t you know it, there is a bug that is enabling some of these weapons to drop at 310 – that’s 20 points higher than intended. In the near future, we’ll be releasing an update that will adjust the Black Spindle to match the attack rating for other Year Two Exotics.
It has also come to our attention that you are using this new acquisition to Infuse your other weapons. Good on you. Have fun with that. None of those weapons will be affected by this change – only the Spindle.
If you have an Exotic Shard to spare, we recommend using it to Infuse another Exotic weapon you have in your inventory and then re-making it from the Exotic Blueprint Vendor.
