After an incredibly long stretch of silence, a Valve employee has finally confirmed some details about Half-Life 3.
Speaking at EGX today, Valve writer Chet Faliszek was taking questions from the public following his talk on Virtual Reality technology.
When a member of the audience asked him whether Half-Life 3 would be a VR game, he replied simply: “No.”
Faliszek went on to talk about how VR headsets like the Oculus Rift and the PlayStation VR would not have wireless capability anytime in the near future because of bandwidth problems. The issue is similar to how regular LCD monitors have yet to offer wireless capability, and VR devices are essentially two miniaturized screens that refresh at 90 frames-per-second.
The same audience member repeated his question about Half-Life 3, to which Faliszek responded: “I said no.”
Faliszek certainly didn’t deny the existence of Half-Life 3, which leads us to believe that the game may well be in development at the studio. As for when the company will reveal anything about the game besides confirming it won’t be a VR game, we have no idea.
