The Umbrella Academy on Netflix has been one of the true joys of their original programming. Taking the beloved comics from Gerard Way and molding them to fit the Netflix model without sacrificing great writing, great characters, and all the hilarity that the show naturally brings. Fans have been waiting since 2020 for the return of the show, and now, the Umbrella Academy Season 3 has dropped its first official trailer, and it highlights how (once again) the lovable Hargreeves family have screwed things up in their attempts to make things better.
But first, the Ballroom Blitz. Yes, as teased many times before, we’re going to see the Umbrella Academy go up against the Sparrow Academy, who are, and I quote, “Dickheads who can fight.” Which feels like the “perfect family” that Reginald Hargreeves always wanted, just saying.
After you get past that though, you get into the real meat and potatoes of the season. Because as No.5 reveals, when they saved the world back in the 60s, they created a time paradox in the future, which created a word I don’t even know how to spell, so let’s just call it a “time bomb”.
This “time bomb” is basically the two realities colliding against one another, and it’s wiping out everything in the process. They have less than a week to try and figure out what to do, or else, “we’re screwed.”
We naturally get some hilarious scenes and banter from the two Academies, as well as a stone-cold Vanya/Viktor talking about how she’s more powerful than all the Sparrows combined. Not to mention some familiar faces showing up to help possibly tip the balance when the time comes.
Exciting, isn’t it? Yeah, so, be ready for when the Umbrella Academy Season 3 drops on Netflix on June 22nd!
