The state of the Arrowverse is right now very tenuous at best. One could argue that COVID-19 hit the CW harder than most other channels out there as the DC Comics lineup had to go and end their seasons prematurely, and then when they came back, they had to have much shorter seasons for two years in a row. That threw a lot of things out of whack. For The Flash, which is now the main show for the Arrowverse, they did their best to overcome this by having an event early in the season via Armageddon, and then have the “regular season” with the remaining episodes.
But, those episodes are now winding down, and according to one of its stars in Danielle Panabaker, the finale is going to be something big:
“I was not around for every bit of it, but as I was reading the script for the finale I was shaking my head wondering how on Earth they were going to pull it off,” Panabaker said. “It was the first opportunity to have a big finale in a couple of years, because Season 6 ended short and Season 7 we were still dealing with COVID restrictions. It’s huge, with a lot of returning faces…. As the saying goes, ‘Go big or go home,’ and they went big for this one.'”
That last line is very important for a very basic reason. For the first time ever, two Arrowverse shows were canceled instead of them being given their proper endings (Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow). The Flash is renewed for Season 9 currently, but that could change. As such, if something were to shift and the renewal undone, that would mean that the season 8 finale would be the series finale. And as such, needs to be a kind of closure…just in case.
