The Karate Kid Sage (the first four films, the Jaden Smith one…honestly doesn’t count for various reasons) is one that many people still have fond memories of. So when it was announced that a “sequel series” was coming out in the form of Cobra Kai…people were HIGHLY skeptical, and for good reason. But then, with each season that came out (first on YouTube Red, then on Netflix), it became clear just how good this show was, and how respectful it was to all that came before. And now, with Cobra Kai Season 5, things are only getting better.
To quickly recap, in Season 4, a bet was made between Johnny Lawrence, Daniel LaRusso and John Kreese for the All-Valley Martial Arts Tournament. If Cobra Kai lost, they were done for good, if the others lost, they had to shut down their schools. Well…Cobra Kai never dies.
And as a result, things are very much in a state of flux and chaos. With Kreese now in jail thanks to his “old pal” Terry Silver, Silver is running Cobra Kai dojos all over the valley. In desperation, LaRusso calls in his old rival in Chozen in order to “cut off the head of the snake”.
As for Johnny, he goes and searches for Miguel in Mexico (who left everyone to find his father). He brings Robbie along and…things go sideways quickly.
A lot of other teases showcase other characters like Sam and Tory going through various questions in their minds and hearts, and of course, there’s going to be a lot of fighting.
But while this trailer teases a lot, it doesn’t tease everything. Including what is going on with John Kreese, who else might show up this season, and more.
What we do know though, is that it will arrive…on September 9th.
