Fans of Twitch.tv will recall that awhile back, the platform featured a channel allowing Twitch viewers to play Pokemon.
The site is now playing a game of Dark Souls, and despite how difficult the game is to play even when you're a single person at the controls, viewers have managed to beat the game's first boss—incredibly.
At any given moment, thousands of viewers are typing commands into the chat that the game then parses as controls. Together, they managed to beat the Asylum Demon in a period of six days and six hours.
Polygon reports that the coders responsible for Twitch Plays Dark Souls modified the game and the command system so that it has a delay of 20-30 seconds to give players the time to react to what's actually happening on screen rather than what happened half a minute ago due to the Twitch broadcasting delay. During the delay, the system counts up all of the commands it receives and outputs the most popular command suggested by users.
It's pretty sophisticated stuff. You can watch the stream below or participate here.
