Sony has already been slaying the 2022 gaming docket, but it looks like the company has something mysterious up its sleeve going forward. With many gamers still exploring Horizon Forbidden West and others looking ahead to the eventual release of God of War Ragnarok sometime later this year, a new tidbit of information found on Twitter is pointing toward something else fans should be excited for–an unannounced project coming soon.
According to PlayStation Studios Visual Arts animator Robert Morrison, a first-party game is set to come out this year that will make fans very happy. While many had previously assumed that Morrison had been working on God of War Ragnarok, the veteran artist explained that this was not the case, and he has instead spent the last 3-5 years working on something else. And not just anything–something that Morrison claims is “something equally cool.” Those are some big words.
Many posts across social media have pointed towards The Last of Us remake for PlayStation 5, which is currently underway at PlayStation Studios Visual Arts. A number of sources, including VGC, have reported that the remake is very near completion. Others well-versed in Morrison’s Twitter account have also noted that the artist is a huge fan of The Last of Us, and has previously stated that it is his favorite game.
While the project has not been officially announced by Sony, many are speculating that its release will coincide with the beginning of the HBO live-action series. Development on the remake project is reportedly being led by Naughty Dog.
Of course, it’s possible that Morrison is referring to something else entirely. Late last month, it was announced that a PlayStation 5-exclusive horror game was in active development. Given that Morrison’s specialty lies in animation and visual design, he may have been tapped to work on this unannounced title. The terrifying title is being built on Unreal Engine 5.
Now, the waiting game begins.
