When it comes to sequels, most have a singular goal: go bigger than the first one. That appeals to video games as well as to movie. When the first Sonic The Hedgehog movie arrived (you know, after it got delayed so it could make a GOOD Sonic) many were impressed by the quality of the film. As well as their desire to establish Sonic and Dr. Robotnik (played by Jim Carrey) in a universe before going full tilt.
With Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the training wheels are coming off, and the movie has just gotten a new featurette that highlights not just new looks at the movie, but also, has the cast themselves detailing what makes this film so much bigger than the first one.
Not the least of which is the arrival of Tails and Knuckles, two keys pieces of Sonic lore, and the team also admits that there’s more action and adventure in this film.
It’s actually quite a treat to hear the cast talk about the film with such passion because that shows how invested in the film they are. Idris Elba (who plays Knuckles) even admitted that he’s wanted to be a part of the Sonic universe for some time but never thought he’d be able to do it, and yet, here he is!
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 arrives in theaters on April 8th.
Here’s the synopsis for the film:
“After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove he has what it takes to be a true hero. His test comes when Dr. Robotnik returns, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a globe-trotting journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.”
