For the nth time, Bethesda cannot release any more Fallout 4 Pip-Boy Editions. It’s not even because they want to keep it “limited edition,” it’s because the factories just can’t take any more orders.
“We made a s**tload of Pip-Boys,” says Bethesda Marketing VP Pete Hines in an interview with GameSpot. They tried to accommodate the demand for the Pip-Boy edition, but it was far too great. “[W]e did a ton of these things. I think we did more of these things than we did for any collector's edition we've ever done, ever.” Bethesda would approach the factories and ask them to make more, and the factories would make concessions, moving other projects or shifting them to other factories. It still got to the point where the factories had to draw the line and say, “[S]orry, this is as many as we can make.”
Sometimes we forget that merchandise doesn’t just poof its way into publishers’ stockrooms. It’s a shame that the official Pip-Boy edition is no longer available, but might we interest you in some really badass fan-made Pip-Boys?
