Along with the exciting news yesterday that CD Projekt RED are actively developing a new game in The Witcher franchise comes an update on who’s behind the wheel of the project. Speaking out on his Twitter account, not long after the news of the new game was revealed, Gwent game director Jason Slama shared that he’ll be the one heading up the team on the newly announced Witcher game.
Slama was responsible for directing the hugely successful Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, a free-to-play card game spin-off from the in-game minigame developed in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Although it’s very early days at the moment as to what the new game will entail, it’s fair to say that Slama’s role as the director can only be seen as a positive thing. Especially given the level of detail and iteration that went into Gwent’s creation and development.
The news of Slama’s involvement in the upcoming Witcher game has gone down well in the Gwent Reddit community, with many holding out high hopes for the new game.
In his Twitter post, Slama also confirmed that CD Projekt RED are currently hiring for new staff members to come and work on his team, even encouraging people to apply for remote roles. Working on the new Witcher game sounds like a dream for many aspiring game designers, writers, artists and producers, and with Slama openly advertising for applicants, it’s clear to see that there’s nothing set in stone right now in terms of the new game.
Speculation is rife however on the possibilities for the new game’s direction. Many fans are convinced that the snow-covered medallion depicted in the teaser image yesterday is from the School Of The Cat. As all fans know that Geralt, the protagonist of the previous three Witcher games, wears a Wolf School medallion, lots of fans are theorising that the main character in the upcoming game could be Ciri. At this point though, everything we know is purely speculative.
