Haven Studios is becoming part of PlayStation Studios. Based in Montreal, Jade Raymond’s Haven Studios is set to be acquired officially by PlayStation and will be operating underneath the wider PlayStation Studios umbrella. This comes after Sony provided initial support and investment for Haven Studios as it was getting off the ground around this time last year.
During the past twelve months, the team led by Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed developer Jade Raymond have been working on a brand new PlayStation 5 IP. While details on this have until now been unclear, it has now been officially revealed that this is for a ‘AAA multiplayer experience’.
Head of PlayStation Studios Hermen Hulst revealed the acquisition news on the official PlayStation Blog.
Today, I’m delighted to announce that Haven Studios is officially joining PlayStation Studios! Jade Raymond brings a wealth of experience from her industry achievements and an infectious passion for creating games, and the leadership team at Haven is an equally impressive group of industry veterans who have collaborated on some of the biggest and most beloved games and franchises that many of us still enjoy today.

He goes on to clarify more details on the project currently in the works at Haven Studios, which sounds exciting, if a bit vague at present.
From their first pitch, we were inspired by Haven’s vision for creating a modern multiplayer experience that brings gamers together in positive and meaningful ways. We were confident in their creative and technical expertise to deliver on such an ambitious project and were thrilled to invest in their journey developing a new, original IP for PlayStation.

The acquisition will be Sony’s first venture into the Canadian game development scene, which is, of course, huge. Time will tell what the new AAA experience Haven is working on will be, but it is clear that things are looking bright for the Montreal-based team.
